PEER 2 PEER

Peer 2 Peer Mentoring Network

Today’s workplace and personal environments are more complex than ever. Working in the arts environment can be tough, but Arts BC is helping to address that. We work to establish connections that are long-lasting and supportive. We want to be able to help our connectional intelligence. We all have to innovate, convene and grow together.
That’s why we have come up with a new, free, peer-to-peer mentoring program idea as part of our THRIVE Digital series to try to help each other in our work.
What is Peer 2 Peer Mentoring?
Peer-to-peer mentoring is drawing out ideas, solutions, self-confidence, and so on, from each other. Peer mentors help each other reach their own solutions or decisions. Of course, as a peer, you may have your own ideas about what someone should do, but without deeply listening to what it is that they feel, you might inadvertently suggest the wrong thing.
Acting as a peer is not being an expert or advice-giving. That’s because we are not an expert in our peer’s situation. This means we must act as a facilitator, helping our peers select the best options they see, and not offering advice or direction unless asked.
The primary goal is to establish a trusting, nurturing, positive relationship between peers in arts organizations. Peer-to-peer mentoring is a way to have a decentralized approach to allow everyone to support each other (with a minimum of org support) and to broaden our reach.

Program Expectations & Commitments
This program is open to individual artist or organization. You don’t need to be a member of Arts BC. You can also suggest a pair, if you have someone in mind. Anyone that participates will commit to being a part of the process and there are specific minimum time commitments required.
If you sign up, you will be trusting in the amazing way Arts BC connects all of us. You will be randomly matched with another individual, but they will be from a different organization and geographic locale. We want to bridge across different outlooks and diverse points of view.
What are the Commitments?
- Commit to a minimum monthly meeting of 1 hr online using zoom or another video conferencing technology.
- Agree to review a monthly newsletter
- Agree to attend a periodic P2P Town Hall meeting on zoom
- Agree to participate in research and answer evaluative questionnaires on this program
