CULTURAL EQUITY SUBSIDY
To support a full creative life for all, Arts BC commits to championing practices of cultural equity that empower just, inclusive, and equitable communities and learning environments for sector development.
Artistic vibrancy and community relevancy go hand-in-hand. For community arts organizations to be relevant, they need to reflect their whole community. Working through unconscious colonial bias – a systemic barrier to change for the sector – is an important area of focus in community and regional arts development at this time.
Through the generous support of the BC Arts Council and to better reflect diverse communities and broader artistic exchange, Arts BC is offering one-time subsidies for the 40th Anniversary Conference.
Community arts organizations are encouraged to reach out to Friendship Centres (or Indigenous organizations offering arts or cultural programs), multicultural organizations (e.g. multicultural societies and centres), and cultural centres (e.g. Chinese, Ghanian, Indian, Ukrainian cultural centres, Francophone associations), and that offer non-disciplinary arts programs in their region and refer them to the conference. Both organizations (the referring and referred organizations) will receive conference subsidies in the following amounts:
- Referring organization: $50 credit toward Arts BC’s 2019 #Next40 Conference. Please email [email protected] to inform us of the organization you have referred to the conference.
- Referred organization: Full credit towards Conference registration fee + travel cost up to $300 per delegate (maximum two delegates per organization).
Multicultural organizations, cultural centres and Friendship Centres/Indigenous organizations are welcome to register for the conference directly without referral with Arts BC to receive the subsidy noted above (full registration + travel subsidy up to $300).
Please apply HERE.
Organizations and artists from remote areas that require travel and conference assistance are also eligible for a travel subsidy up to $300 per delegate (maximum 2 delegates per organization). Travel subsidies are based on distance from the applicant’s location to Kelowna, British Columbia.
Please apply HERE.
We thank you for your interest. Cultural Equity and Travel subsidies are limited and available on a “first come, first serve” basis to organizations who meet the eligibility criteria. Please apply as soon as possible.
