Beng Leng Tan Favreau

Beng’s day job is with Literacy Haida Gwaii where she works as its Executive Director. She has been a passionate volunteer with the Haida Gwaii Arts Council since 2007, with a strong belief in advocating for community arts and cultural development in rural communities.
She is the current President of the island’s Arts Council and has served in this capacity for six years. Prior to being the President, she was the council’s Secretary-Treasurer and served as a committee member of its Performing and Literary Arts for five years.
Beng has experience in fundraising, resource development, community service and grant writing. She has organized and oversaw numerous performance and literary series, community events and festivals. She has strong connections with Haida Gwaii’s local first nations councils, municipalities, educational, healthcare and nonprofit organizations with some extended educational and arts network across Canada.
Besides being an active member of the Haida Gwaii Arts Council, Beng is also currently a board member of the Llnagaay ‘Waadluxan Gud ad is (Haida name for Communities Together Society), a society working on building a mid-sized Performing Arts Centre in the town of Queen Charlotte, Queen Charlotte Support Services Society, Haida Gwaii Legal Project and Operation Refugees Haida Gwaii Sponsorship group.
