The 1970’s were a time of transformative creative expansion across British Columbia: communities throughout the province were building theatres, galleries and museums, and establishing their first arts and cultural organizations.
At the centre of the active network of community arts councils being formed was the Assembly of BC Arts Councils— founded as a provincial arts service organization.
Since that time, we have been the voice for BC’s arts and culture community, and to reflect that reach, became Arts BC.
LOSING OUR SENSE OF PURPOSE
But over the last decade, we began to lose our way with significant staff and board turnover in a ten-year span, a change of locations (three moves in five years!), financial cuts and shifting board mandates.
We’ve survived, and today, we are determined to restore a bold vision for Arts BC.
We are taking the time to craft a new strategic plan to reflect the needs of a changing and dynamic arts and cultural landscape in BC—one that will be supported by a core leadership team, regional outreach activities, a fresh look with useful digital engagement to serve our members, and in turn, strengthen BC’s communities.
